An Opinion… As a citizen of these ‘United States’ I’ve always seen myself, politically speaking, in a very specific and I fear unique position. As I write these words I do so, not as a Republican nor a Democrat. I am not left-wing or right-wing. I am neither conservative nor liberal. I have been accused of having the proverbial fence post right up my middle, but I can’t honestly call myself a moderate nor independent or nonpartisan. Turning Point
In 1861, after years of tension in this country, our fledgling union began perhaps its first real test: At 4:30 am on April 12, Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina’s Charleston Harbor. This has traditionally marked the beginning of the Civil War. The war that followed was not only a tragic loss of life for many Americans but was also a turning point for this country.
