Dear Congresswoman Robin Kelly – Part 3 (Final)
- Interest rates applied to these loans should also be based upon the economic condition of the country at the time the child exits college. I am not an expert in this field, but I know for a fact that if the economy is poor and jobs are scarce anybody is going have a hard time finding a job regardless of whether they have an education are not. Yes money needs to be paid back, but the condition of the economy when the child leaves school needs to be taken into account.
- In the case of what is presently called parent plus loans, the loans being acquired are for the purpose of educating the parent’s child. With this in mind, the parent’s requirements for the beginning of paying this loan should be dependent upon the student’s ability to obtain employment in the field of his/her education.
CONCLUSIONS:
I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share my concerns and frustrations about this issue. More importantly, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share my ideas and visions on how to improve the system.
I will conclude this presentation simply by expressing my desire to be of assistance. I wish to take an active role in helping to improve this system so that it works for the benefit of the people that it is supposed to be helping.
As I have stated earlier in this presentation, I believe that money that has been borrowed should be paid back. However, I do not believe that those Americans who are simply trying to provide their children with a proper education should have to later choose between paying off that education and having a home to live in. They shouldn’t have to decide if they’re going to make a loan payment, or put food on the table. Yes, this responsibility falls on those of us who borrow the money. However, the lender and the institutions who provide the education need also to be responsible for their part. All I have seen so far from the schools and the Department of Education is irresponsible actions that only result in their profit, not in the education of their charges.
Think of it this way:
If a family does not send their kids to college, there is a good chance their earning capability will be less and their standard of living will also be less. However, based upon the above system, if a family does send their kids to college, their standard of living will still not be much better because all their money will need to be going into paying school loans. Looking at it this way, it doesn’t make sense to go to college, and that is wrong.
I think it’s time that certain departments that make up the Federal Government be reminded what the Federal Government is really all about by remembering the words:
“…of the people, by the people, for the people…”
…For the People! Not for your own profit!
I thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and comments about what has been presented here. And again, I do hope that you take my desire to become more involved seriously.
Respectfully!
Ronald K. Koons…
