Dear Congresswoman Robin Kelly – Part 2
Although I agree that there are other things this country needs to deal with that by comparison may seem much more important, the fact that so many parents in my situation are being put into financial hardship is creating a future of poor, destitute, and potentially dependent people.
This is why every major communication such as this one will be posted on my blog. I advertise my blog on Facebook and linked in. Although I’m fairly active and have some followers I fear that the number of followers I need to make a difference is beyond my reach under my existing setup.
This is why I am persistently communicating with government officials such as yourselves.
I will also be contacting and communicating with media outlets in an effort to raise their interest in this topic in hopes that they will allow me to work with them to raise awareness as well.
- Begin some sort of support group for people in my position.
For this bullet point I have some very specific ideas in mind.
I would like to begin by creating some sort of online-based support group. This would be an organization where people would find online supported from a webpage with information about the problems we’re facing and the solutions and ideas we are working on to make things better.
The success of this program will depend upon maximum exposure and a wide range of membership by people like me dealing with these loans. Initially my thoughts are to provide a forum where people can share ideas thoughts and frustrations etc. It would be nice to help people realize that they are not alone, that this is not an isolated issue.
I have this idea where I could create a non-for profit organization based upon the support group. As it grew with a membership of over 10,000 people, I would initiate a one dollar a month per person membership fee. The non-for profit organization would provide complete disclosure to everyone on how the organization is run and where the money goes. If this works I should be able to run the organization with little or no cost at all. The dollar a month fee would go directly towards paying off the school loans of the membership.
Obviously at this point I have a lot to learn about nonprofit organizations, how to set one up and how to make it work effectively. I would assume that there would have to be some sort of committee that would take a look at the entire membership and decide on a monthly basis who would receive the monies towards their school loans. Ultimately, if this is organized right and managed effectively, for a mere one dollar a month we could help make a difference in many people’s lives by paying off part or all of their school loans. As the membership grew the money would go directly towards paying off more and more of the monies that are owed.
- Work with the people that I connect with and government officials like yourselves, to become an integral part in bringing about change in this cryptic, confusing, and unbalanced system.
After all I learned and all that I have gone through thus far I cannot see myself simply sitting on the sideline. I am not a politician. I’m not even sure how the whole process works. But I am a proud American. I know that this system and how it functions is wrong –almost criminal. I do not wish to sit on the sideline, but rather I wish to make a stand, to actively work with people like you towards helping to improve this situation for myself and for all other Americans going through this.
Consider me a sponge. I am ready to learn, to absorb information and to be a part of the solution. Whether it be knocking on doors and handing out flyers, or attending and speaking at functions focused on this topic, I pray that you will allow me to be a part of the solution.
