Train Time

Train Time – No. 15

Today, it’s the 5:40 bound for Homewood.

“Some days are harder than others when it comes to having a good attitude, keeping your chin up, keeping the faith…”

…From my last post.

Speaking of faith:

I realized today that I spend entirely too much time worrying about what other people think!

After all: it’s not like I’m in the habit of running around the city naked or bopping people in the head with a ruler just to get a reaction.

I’m usually a pretty level headed person. I usually spend quite a bit of time thinking about what I’m going to say to someone so as not to offend or make someone angry.

The problem is: I usually spend way too much time thinking about what I’m going to say; sometimes to the point where I end up not saying anything at all when I really should.

Like my wife would say:

“Use your words”

The problem today was…

I sent an email to one of my bosses today expressing my opinion on how something should have been handled. It was a professionally worded email which for most people would not have raised any concern about backlash.

I on the other hand already have myself being reprimanded in the morning and fired by tomorrow night. Sure it’s possible… but it’s not like I told him to go fuck himself… it was just an opinion!

I agree that there are limits. For example: One should never tell your spouse dinner sucks after she busted her butt making it, or that something looks like shit when you can clearly see she took some time and feels some pride in what she did… or he did…

At the same time, if one is asked what is your opinion, a thoughtful and honest response should be expected, especially if you really care about that person. Honesty is better than leaving them thinking all is well when it really isn’t, as long as you can remember that you are offering nothing more than your opinion. Unless asked for and truly wanted, opinions aren’t worth much when it comes to Art and fashion and food because there is always somebody out there that thinks it tastes good or looks good so who are you to judge.

In the end, I think that I have enough in life trying to get me to feel guilty about something without me being one of those things.

…This is the world according to Ron while sitting on a train.
