Train Time: No. 2
Today, it’s the 5:40 bound for Homewood.
So…I have learned ( or rather been reminded) that “doing” is better than “not doing”.
This may sound simple… and potentially silly…
But it’s important, and sometimes hard to remember.
Let’s look at a positive thing. Let’s say I am thinking about… writing in my blog… (to keep it clean).
Certainly I must think about what I want to write, but after that the initial inactive part is finished.
Now comes active thought.
Now I must think and write, think and write… etc.
If I over think the first stage, I may drift into negative thinking with such silly thoughts like:
“ I’m not a good writer.”
Or…
“Nobody reads this anyway…”
Or I may not be able to think of anything right away to write about (which by the way tends to prove to the negative mind that your not a good writer.
Or…
You just start writing.
Once you get into the flow… it will usually work out fine
Now:
You may not care about writing.
In this case, its important to remember that writing is not the point; being positive and just doing is the point.
Applying this to something negative also works.
I needed to write some letters to some people that I owe money to, and the whole process has me in the dreads for three weeks. I was tired ajd anxious and kind of glum.
Finally, after some inspiration from my wife, I sat down, spent about 20 minutes, and the basic draft of my letter was finished.
Now think about this:
I wrote the letter…
I didn’t send it…
It didn’t solve my money problem…
Nothing!
It was nothing more than a file on my hard drive… yet I was a new man, from the time I was first given the idea from my wife.
I was… AM, refreshed, cleansed, and ready to move on!
The moral of the story?
“ just Do It”
( Sorry Nike)
