Where is God… Part IV
You will notice as I continue this dialog, that I have tried to keep this God thing as generic as I possibly can. I have not said “The Christian God”, or “The Hebrew God” or Allah or any one of possibly hundreds of other names and titles one could apply to an almighty creator of all things. As a Christian myself, I see God as part of a Holy Trinity; one holy deity that is a part of a total of three separate individuals that work as one for the betterment of all that is. But I accept this belief with the realization that not every faith in the world believes the same thing. In fact, not every faction of Christianity believes this either. Whereas I believe that the “Holy Trinity” is three separate beings working as one, other Christians believe that this Holy Trinity is only one being that is somehow capable of transcending our limited human understanding by also being three at the same time.
So… somehow, God the father (1) sent his only begotten Son, Jesus (2) (who is really just Himself in human form) to live among us and teach us the truth. Then, when we find this truth we will be filled with the Holy Spirit (3) (The Holy Spirit being this same God just now only a warm fuzzy feeling you get in your gut when you’re on the right track).
To me, this sounds silly…
Personally, I prefer to think of the Holy Trinity as more like good Human parents. For example, when my kids were younger one of them would ask mom if they could have something, or go somewhere, or do something, and if they didn’t like moms answer they would ask dad. If dad was thinking straight, his answer would be “What did your Mother say?” When the kid became frustrated dad would say: “When you talk to one of us, you are talking to both of us! We are a team, we work together. Naturally, if they asked dad first, mom would answer the same as well.
One in purpose not one literally.
So there are many different opinions of who God is, who his Son is, and how this all works. There are others who think that Jesus was just a really nice man whose life ended in tragedy like so many others of his time. He was scholarly and well spoken, but not the Son of God.
There are as many names for God as there are definitions and descriptions of just who he is. Of all the differing names and descriptions, are we speaking of different names for the same God, or different Gods altogether? And if there are indeed many Gods, then who is in charge of what? Who is “Top God” above them all? Is there one Heaven for each of them or do they have a time share arrangement setup?
That is what I want to explore now by looking at as many of the different faiths as I possibly can. I want to see just who this God is, as explained by each of these faiths in hopes of coming to some conclusion as to which God might be the one true God. Like Indiana Jones looking for the lost Arc, I only want the one true Arc (or in this case, God). I would hate to get to heaven only then to find out that the one I believed in was in fact not… God at all.
